Local College and High School Sports Roundup: No. 9 Chico State women's basketball team loses first game of season

The No. 9 Chico State women's basketball team saw its unbeaten start come to an end on Friday night in a 71-65 loss to UC San Diego.

The Wildcats (10-1, 6-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association) suffered their first defeat of the season in La Jolla, falling to the Tritons (7-7, 5-2) due in no small part to a 12-of-21 mark from the free-throw line and an 0-for-9 effort on 3-pointers in the second half.

Synchro Bull and Analise Riezebos each scored 13 points for Chico State, which wasted a 40-33 halftime lead.

UCSD 65, Chico State 62

Amir Carraway scored 17 points and Rashad Parker added 13 for the Wildcats (7-4, 4-3 California Collegiate Athletic Association), but a free throw-shooting plague ? Chico State went just 16 of 27 from the line ? cost them in a loss to the Tritons (3-7, 2-5) in La Jolla. Jordan Semple added 10 points for the Wildcats off the bench.

PREP BOYS BASKETBALL

Orland 59, Durham 39

Jud Sailsbery led the team with 21 points, and Jordan Long added 11 as Orland (14-4) picked up the victory. Zach Marks, Tanner Dodd, and Luke Mularkey scored nine points a piece in the loss for Durham.

Wheatland 55, Hamilton 47

Tim Bekendam scored 11 points, but it wasn't enough as Hamilton lost a close one to Wheatland. Austin Burbank and Shea Shull added nine points each for Hamilton (9-7).

Colusa 59, Biggs 46

Nathan Callaway scored 10 points, but Biggs couldn't find their way to a win. Matt Chandler added nine

points for Biggs (8-8).

Corning 58, Yreka 45

Michael Shoemaker led the team with 18 points and Nick Hoag tacked on 16 of his own as Corning came out on top. Trevor Skousen also had 10 points for Corning (17-0).

Princeton 59, Providence Christian 39

Matthew Reese scored 13 points and Setth Danley had 10 points along with 13 rebounds,but Provdence Christian couldn't get into the win column. Tucker Hoffman also had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Providence (3-9).

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wheatland 49, Hamilton 28

Audra Jones and Justine McCorkle had six points each, but it wasn't enough as Hamilton (8-8) suffered defeat.

Princeton 55, Provdience Christian 29

Amanda Edmonson scored 12 points , but it wasn't enough as Providence ended up with a loss. Kayla Tuma and Mikayla Baugher each had 11 rebounds for Providence (1-7).

PREP BOYS SOCCER

Chico 7, Paradise 3

Rodrigo Serrato's monster match ? three goals and two assists ? paced the Panthers (10-1, 8-0 Eastern Athletic League) in their victory ove the Bobcats. Omar Camarena provided two goals and an assist, and Ibrahim Ibrahim and Bailey Grippenspraw rounded out the scoring for Chico. Clement Thomas scored twice and Brett Hunter had a goal for Paradise.
